A Cure for Hope?

In a society where man can walk on the moon, the rich get richer, to trying to live the “All American Dream”. Yet, we still can’t find cures to cancer, or answer medical questions that have taken the lives of many loved ones over the centuries. So the question; a man cured of AIDS? Many people would just laugh and turn the page. A Nobel Prize winning biologist Dr. David Baltimore explains how a German man was unexpectedly cured of AIDS after undergoing a standard bone marrow transplant.

A German man, who suffered from Leukemia and also an HIV positive, received a bone marrow transplant for his Leukemia and walked out a new man. After his successful transplant this lucky German man walked out of the hospital without being HIV positive. Many may say this was a miracle, but, Dr. Baltimore gives his insights into this bizarre rare case.

Dr. Baltimore says that this procedure could potentially work on others who suffer from HIV. Then why aren’t all HIV positive patients in line for bone marrow transplants? His answer-“Bone marrow transplants are costly and very tricky. The donor and the recipient must have identical bone marrow matches in order to receive any kind of positive outcome.” He says that the German mans case was rare because he carried a gene which was already resistant and after his transplant it cured his HIV.

While many who suffer from this disease pray for a cure; this one German man had God on his side, while he overcame a deadly disease without ever thinking he would see a cure in his life. But his cure came from within himself, and the successful bone marrow transplant.
